madebygeeks.com

http://www.madebygeeks.com is going to be the new site where the old "The Lads Online" website is to be resurrected and given a new lease of life! It's only just been registered so it maybe a little while before we see any content. One thing I can say is that this blog may well end up being part of the site. I'll keep you posted.

Going back to work. It turns out an extension was requested and granted for bids for the old company. They were only given two more days... which means today! Again, we may find out tomorrow or it could be a week. Who knows!?!

Fire!

I must admit, it's been a while since we last had a bbq at home. That's why we had one last night! Some nice Boerewors and potatoes always goes down a treat!

On a different note, i'll hopefully be getting some news on the work front soon! Bids for the old company were due in yesterday and if we win, it shouldn't be long before we get told!

A decadent weekend

Some would call it a decadent weekend... others would just call it a fun weekend. I can see it from both views but I would call it decadent as I'm too young!

It started off with a little Saturday morning car shopping. I came out of it with an Audi A6 SE TDi. A nice relaxing mini limo to waft around in. To celebrate a trip to the pub followed by a kebab seemed to be the tradition. To some just sitting on the wall and eating a kebab is decadent! From there it would it be off to Jons to laugh at him trying to install some new speakers to his cars parcel shelf.

As you can see he had the right tools for the job... Everybody knows that the correct tool for cutting a hole in a parcel shelf is a steak knife!

Despite the bizarre methods of installation, it was deemed a success and it didn't take too long! Finally a five minute job that took five minutes!

After some food it was onto the pub at Darren's World - The Three Sisters for some booze and a laugh.

Sunday was a relaxing day. Some food, a couple of films, a little tiding up and playing in the playground...

Trains are a fun way to travel...

Can you sense the sarcasm? As you know I've sold the Skyline but I've not got myself a new car. This has forced me to get the train to work and it's a pain in the arse! Firstly they're not outside your house so you have to walk to the station. Secondly, you can't go whenever you want to... well you can, but you'll have to wait for the next one. Finally, they don't drop you off at where you want to go!

I know. I'm lazy.

It's been interesting though. It's given me a chance to catch up on my podcasts a little and I get to relax on the way home from work after my 20 minute walk!

Hopefully tomorrow will bring good fortunes on the car front and I won't have to get the damn train again!

Darren's World

Last night was a trip to Darren's World - The Three Sisters. There's only a few things to do there really! Drink, play pool, play darts or gamble!

As you can see, there are two new activities to do. Writing on the chalk board and apparently something with cream?...

It's gone...

Yup. It's gone. The Skyline has been sold to the Frenchman.

Yesterday I got the displeasure of watching him drive away with the beast that's been eating away at my pocket for the last few years! I can only imagine that I won't be holding a V-Power pump for quite a while... unless I win the lottery!

I'm now on the look out for something cheap to run as i'm doing the long trips to Leeds every fortnight. Something diesel probably... Why don't they do a diesel Skyline?...

Pub Antics

Another weekend of pub antics... Friday night at Darren's World (or the Three Sisters as it's formally known!) and Saturday night up in Alfred Hitchcock hotel.

Apart from drinking, confirmation came through of the Frenchman's flight to come and buy the Skyline. Tomorrow will be a sad day for me. My other half is very nicely taking me out for a meal to mark the occasion of the loss of "the love of my life" as she puts it. On a brighter note, it means I can start paying off my debt and maybe even saving something!

Finally my main character on World of Warcraft dinged level 58 yesterday which means I'm finally able to walk through the Dark Portal into the Outland to face some new challenges!

Skyline Sold?

Could this be it? Could the Skyline finally be sold? It’s for a little less than what I wanted but if it’ll get rid of it then it has to be done!

The only problem is that it’s not an Englishman buying it, nor is he a resident of the UK! He’s a Frenchman who’s been after a Skyline to take back to France with him! From what I’m aware Skylines in France are even more rare than they are here in England and the only way to buy one is to come over here and drive it back.

Naturally, I’m not happy selling to a foreigner (solely for the safety of the sale aspect) but if he’s genuine then I’m happy.

The main thing is, it looks like a done deal. He's aware of all it's flaws and is extremely keen in buying it. He's flying in on Tuesday for a closer look and hopefully to take her away!

Work Update

I’ve a work update for you… Actually it’s not really an update. The Directors came in today with an announcement that the company I’m now working for has changed name! Instead of having the 3 separate companies (the 2 packhouses and the storage facility) they’ve taken the 2 remaining companies and turned them into one. It’s now much easier when answering the phone and it means a clean start for us as a business.

Moving time

Up until the age of 20 I’d lived in the same house. Then, I decided to move out and live with a friend a little closer to work and ever since I’ve never really lived in a house for much time before moving on! There was Parkfield Road, Shakespeare Road, Holmoaks, Broadview Avenue and finally Northumberland Avenue. 5 different houses in almost 6 years and that doesn’t include the short time we lived at my Nan’s between Holmoaks and Broadview Avenue!
Well now it seems it’s time to move again. The rent has gone up, work has got further away and my other half has moved up north. The big question is, do I move with my housemates to a new dwelling closer to work or move back in with my parents? Both have advantages and disadvantages and it’s proving difficult to decide. Any help would be appreciated!

10 whole days...

I must start by apologising. I’ve not posted an update for 10 whole days now! Sorry!

Anyway, in the last 10 days not a huge amount has happened really. Last Wednesday was a poker night. It was the first time we played for money and I believe it was the first time I actually won!! It was a handy win to be honest as this weekend I went to see my other half up in Leeds. I managed to get there in half a tank which is incredible for the Skyline! Normally 240 miles is a full tank so I was amazed when the needle didn’t move for most of the journey! I then did exactly the same coming back. On doing the maths it works out at a solid 27mpg.

Apart from that, not much has happened! Work is going steadily. It’ll still be a few weeks before we know whether our jobs are secure or not.

On a less work related note our letting contract is due for renewal shortly and seeing as the rent has gone up, we probably won’t be staying which is a little sad really as some good times have been had in that house. Happy days!

Another work update...

They’re here. The receivers/creditors/liquidators/administrators… whoever they are, they’ve taken control. All those in the old office have had to leave which means they’ll all back in my office again. Only those helping the administrator are allowed down in the old office. Hopefully now it won’t be long before we know what’s going on!

On a non work note, it was a busy weekend and I’d like to congratulate my new housemate on going to bed at 9pm during her 21st birthday party. Lucky we took plenty of photos to remind her the next day! There was actually a lot of birthdays at the end of March so I’d just like to wish everyone a belated happy birthday.

Work Update

Finally, some real to update you with! I get in this morning and a couple of the guys from the company we used to work with (the ones that put us out of business) were standing outside chatting by their cars. This struck me as odd as it was cold and raining. Why not chat inside?!?! When I got to the reception, the reason was clear. They had been kicked out! Finally they had been evicted! I was both surprised and relieved to see them out there as it squashes a few rumours which had been flying around. Apart from the evil gits that cost us our business getting the boot, not much else is happening here.

It was also a birthday end to the month with 5 birthdays over the weekend! Not only that but a new housemate moved in to our now crowded home, so it’s been very very busy! Unfortunately it won’t be crowded for much longer as my girlfriend is moving to Leeds! Booooo. Guess who’s moving her there! Yup, the useless company I once worked for.
